Character_ specializes in artistic, analog film production. We scan and master Super 8, 16mm and 35mm with a real feel for the material — plus camera rental, filmstock, processing through trusted partner labs, and a knowledge hub for the analog film community.
We started Character_ because we believe analog film production should be accessible and transparent — made by people who genuinely understand the medium.

Manuel Götz
Drawn to the place where the science of film and the art of film stop being separate questions.
Film restorer, educator and archive consultant rooted in the Vienna artist-filmmaking scene. Trained at the Universities of Amsterdam and Vienna and the Kubelka School. Career spans ARRI Munich, MoMA New York, Austrian Film Museum, alongside international freelance work and a film restoration practice in Munich.

Stefanie Weberhofer
For Stefanie Weberhofer, analog film is a central part of her own artistic work – and a medium she wants to make accessible to other filmmakers as well.
Cinema artist and analog filmmaker, her work is shown in cinemas, exhibition contexts, and as live performance. Distributed by sixpackfilm. Trained in MultiMediaArt: Film at FH Salzburg, Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna, and Concordia University Montreal. She learned the most, however, at the artist run film lab filmkoop wien.

Wir haben Character_ gegründet, weil wir glauben, dass analoge Filmproduktion zugänglich und transparent sein sollte – und von Menschen gemacht, die das Medium wirklich verstehen.

Von jenem Ort angezogen, an dem die Wissenschaft des Films und die Kunst des Films aufhören, getrennte Fragen zu sein.
Filmrestaurator, Vermittler und Archivberater, verwurzelt in der Wiener Filmemacher:innen-Szene. Ausgebildet an den Universitäten Amsterdam und Wien sowie der Kubelka-Schule. Laufbahn u. a. bei ARRI München, MoMA New York und dem Österreichischen Filmmuseum, dazu internationale freiberufliche Tätigkeit und eine Filmrestaurierungspraxis in München.

Für Stefanie Weberhofer ist analoger Film zentraler Bestandteil ihrer eigenen künstlerischen Arbeit – und ein Medium, das sie auch anderen Filmschaffenden zugänglich machen möchte.
Kinokünstlerin und analoge Filmemacherin, ihre Arbeiten werden im Kino, im Ausstellungskontext und performativ gezeigt. Vertrieb durch sixpackfilm. Studium MultiMediaArt: Film an der FH Salzburg sowie Theater-, Film- und Medientheorie an der Universität Wien und der Concordia University in Montreal. Am meisten gelernt hat sie allerdings in der filmkoop wien.
